Tyler Hines is a Digital Media major who excels in the fields of animation and graphic design. He likes to make pieces based off of he anime world as well as the supernatural and the ooky spooky. He enjoys playing volleyball, watching horror movies, and a good meme.

My work as an artist draws inspiration from the duality of my interests, where one side is more on the anime and pastels and the other leans towards a darker side which comes from my passion for horror movies. My work is refined yet cartoonish, ethereal yet grounded. I add a splash of whimsy to all my pieces. 

Some of the work I have done includes having taken distorted vinyl records and shot close ups of how the refracted light from my sunroof has brought the discs to life. I also set fire to a trinket that belonged to my ex and took shots as the flames consumed it.

With each piece I make my aim is for the viewer to feel two waves of emotion from the pieces; the first being how they perceive the piece and its creation, and the second being how they perceive my emotions while having made the pieces, as in what I was feeling or trying to express. I draw inspiration from Ken Sugimori, who did the original watercolor artworks for the first two generations of the Pokemon franchise. I also draw my inspirations from filmmakers such as Wes Craven and Ari Aster of the A24 franchise, with pieces that seemingly look normal having eerie and disturbing undertones.
